FORMING TEMPERATURES AND CYCLES

Forming temperatures for Vical acrylic sheets must be carefully controlled within the forming range. Temperatures that are too high may cause degradation of the sheet. Temperatures that are too low may cause excessive stresses leading to crazing in service. The optimum temperature at which Vical acrylic should be formed will vary according to the thickness of the material, the method of forming, and the ultimate shape desired. In specific applications the optimum forming cycle should be determined by trial.

The forming temperature for certain Vical acrylic colors will differ slightly from the recommendations for colorless Vical acrylic which are given in this bulletin. Translucent and opaque colored Vical acrylic sheets have one side which shows slightly superior brilliance and uniformity of color from sheet to sheet.
